RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK.
→ CHILDHOOD | I AM ELLIOT'S MEDULLA OBLONGATA
▸ Born to Elaine and Grant (sr) Richards in South Africa not much prior to Grant (jr)'s birth. Elliot is the Alpha Twin by like five minutes. His parents were (and are still) very much in love, having met on a mission or a "business trip" as he says, that they both took part in, which lead to an interesting couple of nights in Africa which his father has no issue sharing - leading both Elliot and Grant when he was alive to plug their ears going "LA LA LA. CAN'T HEAR YOU."
▸ Elliot and Grant had somewhat of a posh upbringing, often invited to important parties due to their parents' important connections. This led to a more strict childhood, one that unfortunately didn't really involve both parents that often. The twins were mainly raised by a nanny until and had a rather normal (as normal as rich childhood is) childhood. Never really wanting for anything except more attention from their parents.
▸ As they grew older they attended a private school in London, that's where Elliot's interest in theatre and gymnastics began to really take root. His brother dutifully followed alongside him into his newfound hobbies, despite being the more introverted twin. When the focus was on Elliot, he seemed to excel, loving to be on a stage of any kind, be it for ballet or for school plays.
▸ @ 10; The twins' powers began manifesting in different ways: Grant began seeing ghosts and Elliot began seeing the energy that surrounded things that surrounded those spirits his brother saw, that surrounded the dead and the dying. This came as no shock to their parents as they both are magic users themselves; Elaine a spectral and Grant (sr) a necromantic.
Not much changed in their lives with their new powers, Elliot became a bit more solemn, not liking that he could see the death around people in hospitals or around his ill family members that he knew wouldn't make it and his brother became a bit more strange as he befriended people that weren't exactly people any more. There was also the change in nanny to someone a bit more qualified to help them embrace what they were.
Their lives continued on, quietly and normally, as they continued to go to their private school, keeping their powers to themselves, feeling more and more alone even when they had plenty of friends.
▸ @ 13; It wasn't until Elliot was thirteen that things went awry, his brother met his first not so nice spirit, one afternoon during third hour. To everyone but Elliot he looked like a madman, having some sort of panic attack or meltdown in the middle of class. The malicious spirit in question wanted what it no longer had - life and power. It was that same day that Elliot learned he could interact with the dark energy he witnessed around and in the spirits that his brother saw. With enough panic, he learned he could tear a spirit apart, joining his brother in looking like a complete whacko whilst he tried desperately to keep his little brother safe.
Embarrassed and ashamed, the Richards and their nanny were forced to pick up and move their children, not really wanting to deal with further judgement from the rest of the family they glossed over Yorkshire entirely and chose Africa - always seeming like a second home to both Elaine and Grant (sr). Their mother promised she'd meet up with them once they settled in wherever their father brought them. Grant (sr) took the children to Johanessburg and set them up there in a house, taking a "smaller job" and seemed to disappear shortly after, once again. Unsurprisingly they never saw their mother, at least, not until they were fifteen, plied with excuses about how work had gotten out of hand, despite brief instances of seeing their father.
They were plied with a new nanny whose son, Ezra, they became close with almost immediately. They were home schooled and taught Afrikaans after Elliot all but insisted their nanny teach them it. The trio became inseparable and where Ezra went, the twins were always nearby. This friendship lead to many shenanigans and the twins getting what they've always been deprived of, human compassion within a family unit.
Once he learned that Ezra was a magic user, they found solidarity in a way they never expected.
→ SCHOOLING | I AM ELLIOT'S BROKEN HEART
▸ @ 14; At age fourteen Elliot was recruited into JBC with his brother, and Ezra upon demand. Knowing the other boy didn't really have enough money to fund anything, they were sure to take care of any monetary problems JBC might bring up.
Elliot's first year of training went smoothly, especially once he was classified as a necromantic, seeming to absorb information taught to him like a sponge, he was a natural. The older twin seemed to flourish in a place where he could express the magic that had ruined his life a year ago, turning it into something positive as opposed to something negative.
Life was going well and he seemed to have found something good with the training and the friendship he had with his brother and Ezra.
Seemingly in the wrong place at the wrong time, Elliot met a pickpocket, who he ended up befriending over the span of the months that he was staying in Africa. A few weeks into their odd but cheery friendship, Elliot learned that not only was the man a pickpocket but he was one of the finest, consulting for both the police all around the world and for various movies and shows. Star-struck, Elliot managed to convince him to teach him how to pickpocket and found it was a lot like the acting he had grown to love when he was younger. The fact that he could put on a show and manipulate people's focus made him rather fond of it and a quick learner.
His first "fieldwork" ended up in him almost getting arrested a couple times, but when he learned how to improvise in the situations to make it work, he impressed even his 'tutor.'
▸ @ 15; Elliot became more and more interested in his new hobby and the more psychological parts to it as well. Playing brain games of focus became the bread and butter of his life much to his brother's dismay. Staying in touch with his pickpocket friend even after he returned to the United States, Elliot onl got better at the mental manipulation of others, less because of the adrenaline rush it gave him and more because he became highly interested in the way the minds of others work.
When the holidays and his birthday rolled around, Elliot and his brother returned to England, finally seeing their mother again for the first time in a little over a year. While Elliot hated the entire experience, trying to keep himself withdrawn from his mother for feeling as though she abandoned him, his brother and his father she refused to let him. If anything Elliot found her even more clingy and loving that he'd ever seen her in his life, and much to his annoyance, it was aimed at him as opposed to both him and his brother - who he felt protective of and disgusted for since there was obvious favouritism playing in his mother's behaviour.
Then things got worse, a couple days before turning sixteen, whilst Elliot found himself being latched onto by his mother, his brother was murdered in a mugging gone wrong. This shook him to his core, and drained any happiness about his sixteenth birthday from him. Blaming himself for sending Grant (jr) out to the shop for seemingly needless items now.
His whole family seemed torn up by what happened and his mother seemed to take it out on Elliot, only giving his case of survivor's guilt a boost. Destroyed by her treatment and the loss, Elliot demanded to be returned to his house in Africa, refusing to even attend his brother's funeral.
▸ @ 16; The year that Grant was gone was the hardest Elliot had ever spent alive. His grades went from As to Cs immediately, and it was obvious that his mind was elsewhere. His attention was lost, working on hunting down who killed his brother, barely getting any sleep, barely eating, and hardly interacting with the people he'd once considered his friends. During a short holiday break he returned to England, struck by grief he took his rage out on their once mutual friend Ryan, the one that had been with Grant the night of his death. He found a rather awful spirit and shoved it in him, locking it in him, with his newly practiced ability. After terrorising the boy for a while, he found that Ryan had turned tail and ran when he saw the gun, leaving Grant there by himself, despite pleading and begging, instead of showing mercy, Elliot let Ryan die.
Later on, after returning to Africa he met a witch doctor who seemed to know what he was and showed interest in his powers, interested in him due to what he'd heard from Nyaminyami of what would happen in the future. Instead of letting the idiot necromantic boy die, he helped him by way of spellcast tattoos. The first being a very dangerous, but demanded tattoo that linked his brother's spirit to his. It allowed him to see his brother but also left him open to possession, something he found out in the upcoming years of his life.
When the JBC began group classes, training multiple people in situations that they would need to work together, Elliot met a boy named Kit. They got along like cats and dogs, especially after Kit punched him in the face and bloodied his nose. That lead to a rather nasty brawl, seeing as Elliot was physically weaker than the larger boy but fueled by rage. The fight ended when Elliot tried to stab Kit in the spleen with pocket knife and Ezra intervened, keeping the smaller boy from digging his grave deeper.
Both the boys were forced to partake in a ridiculous number of hours of "community service" and Elliot found himself actually drawn in interest to the boy he had considered an enemy at first. When Elliot learned of Kit's troubled family life he was instantly inspired - not at all liking that he had it even worse than Elliot did. Much to Kit's dismay they came out of the situation with Elliot deciding to attach himself to the other boy, almost forcefully befriending him and becoming instantly protective.
Oddly enough, Kit became fond of the other boy as well and was drawn into Elliot's life.
Before turning seventeen his brother convinced him to get Emma, his lovebird. Telling him that she was a way to keep himself healthy and remember to take care of himself whilst he continued to hunt down his brother's killer - despite his brother's disapproval.
When Elliot found his brother's murderer, he was in England once again, on holiday break once again, never wasting any time for play. The lead ruined the time that was meant to be spent with his then girlfriend of just under a year - Nyeleti who joined him and his family for Christmas. Instead of spending the holiday, his seventeenth birthday, and the new year with his then girlfriend and family, he spent it hunting down his brother's killer and torturing him by the same method he'd used on Ryan earlier in the year.
▸ @ 17; This behaviour put him at odds with his family, disgruntled with the fact that he'd disappeared for three of the most important times of the year, and not only that but leaving his girlfriend there. His girlfriend who also was put off incredibly by the behaviour, and broke up with him shortly after they returned to Africa.
Once Elliot's plot for revenge was finished he lost all motivation in life and tried to kill himself by slicing one of his wrists open, pretty deeply. He woke up in the hospital with Ezra at his bedside and about thirteen stitches in his wrist with the official documentation saying he checked in saying it was a power tool accident - and still to this day isn't sure how he ended up in the hospital. Near death, unknowing to him, his brother used the tattoo that linked them and possessed him, taking control of him and took him to Ezra, pleading for him to take him to the hospital. Grant never outed himself to Ezra, nor did he ever tell Elliot what he did.
This lead to the start of a shaky year where Elliot began to try to find a real place in where he belonged in the world. Surprisingly, Grant's ghost and Ezra managed to inspire something other than apathy and hatred out of Elliot, drawing him into an interest in helping with local problems around city pertaining to the supernatural and ultimately, trying to help Kit Myers with his inability to stay away from corruption.
It was summer when he was possessed by a rather nasty spirit that nearly killed him, and had it not been for the witch doctor he'd befriended, he probably would have died. After that experience, he was easily talked into getting his polarization lines to deter possession. This only lead to him further enhancing his skills with various other tattoos.
▸ @ 18 - 19; The Johannesburg Collective sees community as something that's needed in order to continue; because they are not as large as their sister schools, they focus on this ideal whilst also strengthening their students. Graduation takes places for the senior class at midnight. The students are required to ingest a mysterious liquid given out by the faculty. The liquid in question has a sludgy black consistency and nerfs the student's powers whilst also giving them the affects of feeling drugged, various effects that affect everyone differently. This makes it so the idea of relying on one another is preferred - of course, not everyone always follows along. Once this is done, they are dropped into the middle of an African jungle, armed with nothing but their wits, some bottles of water and some snack bars.
The rules are simple: Stay alive, kill as many spooks as possible, and make it out of the jungle. Trophies are used to rank the class.
Elliot took to graduation just fine at first, working in a group with ease. Of course, nothing is ever so simple for Elliot, halfway through, witnessing one of his classmates die right in front of him, he had a bit of a meltdown. Reminded of what he'd lost and who should have been there graduating. That brought back his bad tendency of losing interest in his safety and putting a strong interest in putting himself at a high unnecessary risk. After being abandoned by most of his working group, he had to be dragged back to safety by his best friend Ezra.
Once they made it out of the jungle, and the results were released to the class, he found he placed at the top of his class due to the lapse of good judgement. This got him a couple job offers and despite Elliot's fondness of helping people, he kept his head low and simply stuck to helping Ezra and Kit whilst trying to find a way to bring Grant back.
→ POST-GRADUATION | I AM ELLIOT'S WASTED LIFE
▸ @ 20 - 22; His mission of trying to bring Grant back took first priority for a couple years, taking him all over the world in any attempt to research many of the dead ends of bringing people back to life as themselves. Whilst he traveled he worked on cases too, helping any locals he met with cases of spooks and monsters plaguing them.
Much to his dislike, he began to notice how it was becoming more and more common and his main focus shifted to helping people from the horrifying world of magic and monsters. He never gave up on trying to bring his brother back or fix Kit, often times taking up cases that he felt could lead him in any way a step closer to solving either problem.
What he found was not so encouraging, with the rise of monster problems, he also found that everything to do with bringing someone back from the dead ended up being a dead end, while this frustrated him, he did learn more about Kit's struggle with corruption. When he returned to Africa he found that Kit's state was far worse than he ever expected. This lead to Elliot dragging the boy on all kind of adventures with him and occasionally Ezra, so not only could he keep an eye on him, but try to find a way to fix him.
▸ @ 23; One of the adventures Elliot found himself on was in Italy where he'd dragged Kit along, looking into people that might be able to help Kit's corruption. Unfortunately, Elliot couldn't keep himself from his usual pickpocket bullshit, and ended up lifting off an Italian Mafia son - Dante.
Things that this could be considered: very fucking bad.
It lead to shenanigans of him getting tangled up in a bunch of Italian bullshit he didn't want to be tangled up in due to the son's interest in his pick-pocketing abilities. He'd sent Kit home the moment it began so he didn't get tied into whatever it was Elliot was stepping in.
It was months before Elliot managed to flee Italy and vowed never to step foot back into the place, even if he'd decided Dante wasn't a complete shitbag.
▸ @ 24; Elliot was 24 and living on his own, well, with the occasional ghost of his dead brother and of course his love bird Emma when he met Maxwell Kieser. The stars aligned in some bullshit fashion that poked holes in the already shredded thing Elliot oh-so-graciously called his Kharma. Probably her most violent metaphorical kick to the pants for Elliot. As per usual, he was preying on the tourists that ended up in Joburg, much to the locals disgust, including his own. The typical fast talking, mental manipulation of knowing just how to draw someone's attention right where he wants it whilst he robs them blind in full daylight. The usual spiel of a dead family member having a message, one that he's now decides is "Maxwell can get bent." and talking long enough and letting the person fill in enough to let them believe he knows what he's talking about, when there's more of a possibility that their dead aunt isn't communing with him because he probably ate her.
Of course, Max was an easy victim for the fast talking, nimble fingered boy that looked no older than some local boy playing some stupid prank on the tourist. If the greeting in full on Afrikaans didn't give it away that he knew a thing or two about where he lived.
A simple picking, an easy day, tourists robbed, wallets snooped through, stolen cigarettes smoked. Easy peasy pumpkin squeezy, right?
Wrong.
Unbeknownst to Elliot, Max was there on a mission to remove some dangerous artefacts that were rumoured to be in a tomb that had recently been unearthed nearby. That lead him to Elliot's old school, The JoBurg Collective where he managed to charm his way into getting some of the graduated student records. This wouldn't have been a problem, other than the fact that Elliot was one of the top of his graduating class and Max was smart enough to put two and two together that the fast talking kid that invaded his personal space on occasion was the one that stole his stuff.
Cue Elliot having to run like he's in The Maze Runner or some crap because there's a massive German man chasing him trying to get his stuff back. It doesn't end there of course, oh no, that'd be too easy, the massive German man also looks inhuman - something like one of H.P. Lovecraft's fuckchildren - because he can vessel demons and spooky things.
After what was probably an hour of running through Johannesburg in the middle of the night from this dude tryina murder him, Elliot finally got cornered in an alleyway and a fence that fell on him when he tried to climb it, which in all honesty was probably a lot funnier to anyone but Elliot (seriously think some hilarious Simon Pegg bullshit, what have you never heard of shortcuts???). Not yet ready to come to terms with dying, Elliot - in one final ditch effort - attempted to flee again only to get a firm fist to the stomach.
After returning Max's things to him, well, more like wheezing and shouting in Afrikaans and tossing his things at him before trying to bail again; Despite Elliot's great offense, Max managed to recruit him to help with the job of the tomb.
→ LATER YEARS | I AM ELLIOT'S UTTER LACK OF SURPRISE
▸ @ 25; Elliot met up with Max again when he was twenty five, his ways staying the same: pick-pocketing and fake mediumship. Max who has gotten reckless and a bit dumb with the loss of Marco ended up recruiting him for yet another tomb raiding job. The job took place in a recently unearthed tomb in Zimbabwe and was going fine until Elliot found a relic near a description of the underworld, intregued he snagged it to see if it could be any use to him.
Onedirectionlaugh.mp3
The moment Elliot stepped outside the tomb with Maxwell, he was possessed by an ancient river spirit, Nyaminyami. This became pretty obvious when he passed out the moment they stepped foot outside. Nyaminyami possessed him in an attempt to get to the other side of the dam that split his river, this of course was unknown to both Elliot and Max. The latter of which aggressively tried to yank out any intruders within Elliot.
In an attempt to get Max to fuck off, Nyaminyami pulled a demon inside of Elliot to let the demonic boy pull something out of Elliot and use it as a scapegoat as Nyaminyami hid in dormancy. When Max was content that Elliot was no longer possessed, he went back to his life and Elliot continued his.
It was a week after Maxwell left when Elliot realised things weren't okay. First the dreams started, of hurricanes, of corpses in trees, and Elliot's least favourite: of drowning. Next came the more morbid thing, water that Elliot got within a foot of turned to blood or something worse - something black and thick with the scent of decay.
Elliot continued like this for a couple months, looking for a solution to his problem. In the end, he payed America a visit in an ailing state, near death and looking like he was a breath away from death, with pale skin and thick black veins and a constant fever that left him far too hot or clammy and cold. He was in search of Max, and ended up finding his friends instead - Gus, Harper and briefly someone who looked to Elliot like a cherub. It all felt like a hazed feverdream however, unable to really pay much attention to anything as Max's friends kept Elliot from kicking the bucket.
When Max showed up, he decided he needed help from one of his ancient relatives - Paya. The woman being an immortal spectral. She sussed out what was wrong with him, and they took Elliot back to Africa, realising it'd be better for his health instead of further angering the spirit by being so far from his river. Ultimately she intended to shove the spirit back into the relic from the tomb but once Elliot learned what the spirit wanted which was to be reunited with it's spirit wife in the other side of the dam, Elliot refused that option and demanded they bring it to where it wanted to go.
Pulling Nyaminyami back out of Elliot nearly killed him, and involved drowning him near to death, it was painful in every way and Elliot's sure it's the worst pain he'd experienced aside from the pain of Grant's death. It required Max to be tethered to Paya to get the magical oomph to push Nyaminyami back into the river but ultimately it solved the problem.
Once Elliot assured Ezra and Kit he wasn't dead, Max, Elliot and Paya headed to London, feeling there wasn't enough room back in his flat, Elliot brought them back to his family estate in London where they took their time recovering from the ordeal and drinking Paya's weird concoctions.

→ grant richards. twin brother. deceased. was elliot's best friend.
→ ezra govender. best friend, he met ezra at jbc and the brothers and ezra became quick friends, the smaller two becoming rather protective of their classmate. once grant passed, elliot continued to stick to ezra.
→ max kiesler. friend he met and then promptly did a job with. would push him into incoming traffic but would also die for him, there's probably a tiny little crush down there somewhere.
→ emma. the love of his life. his pet lovebird. she was his coping mechanism/therapy when grant died, so he didn't have to mourn alone.
→ harper gray. max's friend that did a pretty good job in making sure he didn't die. he was kind of out of it when he'd met them but making sure he didn't die got them a 10/10 in his book
→ august moreau. max's friend that also helped him not die for a hot second, didn't see much of him, he seemed to be busy but helpful nonetheless.
{abilities.
→ INSIDIOUS TOUCH | Elliot can draw spirits into his body and either feed on their death energy or he can force them into other organics: people, skeleton crew, other vesselers.
→ VESSELAGE | Elliot can hold spirits in him, normally this would be a problem as spooks don't like to be the ones not in charge, especially as a little shitlord is feeding off their energy but due to a mixture of experience, Paya's tea and various tattoos from a witch doctor, he's usually got the spirit thing on lock. However, if he holds them in him for long amounts of time without tearing them into energy they can become dangerous and take over. Basically it can get bad and he can get pretty not okay.
→ LICH'S DREDGE | Elliot can bring creatures that resemble things of the once living back to "life" for short amounts of time. They're better used as meat shields or distractions because of their short expiration dates. They last a little longer when he shoves spirits in them, but are harder to control. Because of this, he seems them as utterly expendable assets and often sacrifices them himself for the left over death energy if he can before they're useless.
→ SPITEFUL BIND | So, Elliot can force spirits into other people, and he can lock them in place with a tricky little hex, it's no where near unbreakable, but it's a pain in the ass to tackle. Sort of like an extra proxy to an already tricky spirit removal. This of course spells out trouble for whatever poor asshole pissed Elliot off and brought this upon them-self.
→ AWAKENED SIGHT | Elliot can commune with and see the dead, well, more like death energy. Seeing spirits is more tricky and whilst death energy surrounds spirits he can see them with a little focus and a headache later.

The necromantic class controls magic that affects those that cannot be seen, and are tied to all that has died or has been corrupted.
→ AWAKENED SIGHT (tier 1) | Elliot can commune with and see the dead, well, more like death energy. Seeing spirits is more tricky and whilst death energy surrounds spirits he can see them with a little focus and a headache later. Of course, he has a tattoo to allow him to see his twin's spirit whenever, located on his spine.
→ PHANTOM RADIO (tier 1) | Elliot can commune with and see spirits of the earthbound departed. It gives him a headache after a while due to the magic it takes, this lessens as he gets older. Crawl Era he can do it with minimal headaches.
→ SOUL EATER (tier 1) | Elliot devours spirits due to his physiology, he breaks them down into death energy and re-purposes it for other uses.
→ PHILOSOPHER'S SOUL (tier 1) | Elliot may use the energy gathered from the dead to heal injuries or the work against the damage that vesseling does on his body, normally it's used for the latter, since vesselage is hard on a human body but in dire situations he'll turn it to patching himself up.
→ INSIDIOUS TOUCH (tier 2) | Elliot has the ability to draw spirits into his body and either feed on their death energy or he can force them into other organics: people, skeleton crew, other vesselers. This is his main go to, despite the dangers it poses to him, he's got tattoos to sort of ward against the spooks taking full control of him and normally does the job of sorting them out before they can do much damage to him.
→ VESSELAGE (tier 2) | Elliot can hold spirits in him, normally this would be a problem as spooks don't like to be the ones not in charge, especially as a little shitlord is feeding off their energy but due to a mixture of experience, Paya's tea and various tattoos from a witch doctor, he's usually got the spirit thing on lock. However, if he holds them in him for long amounts of time without tearing them into energy they can become dangerous and take over. Basically it can get bad and he can get pretty not okay. That said he's got a couple walls of defense against it.
→ LICH'S DREDGE (tier 2) | Elliot likes to bring creatures that resemble things of the once living back to "life" for short amounts of time. They're better used as meat shields or distractions because of their short expiration dates. They last a little longer when he shoves spirits in them, but are harder to control. Because of this, he seems them as utterly expendable assets and often sacrifices them himself for the left over death energy if he can before they're useless.
→ SPITEFUL BIND (tier 2) | So, Elliot can force spirits into other people, and he can lock them in place with a tricky little hex, it's nowhere near unbreakable, but it's a pain in the ass to tackle. Sort of like an extra proxy to an already tricky spirit removal. This of course spells out trouble for whatever poor asshole pissed Elliot off and brought this upon them-self. Any heavenly or demonic class shouldn't have too much trouble getting past it, but if not expected it can be a shock and a pain in the ass.
→ PUTRID SWARM (tier 3) | Elliot can heal moderate to severe soul damage and corruption in a far less pleasant way than a heavenly. It involves a lot of puking up soul rot and maggots; it has its limits however and sometimes all he can do is remove corruption disallowing it to spread further and hopefully promote healing. To use this, Elliot must keep a constant stream of magic channeled into the other person as he works away at it. This is both harrowing for him and the patient; it wears him out and often means he has to be awake for long periods of time but it also means that the patient has to deal with the puking, maggots AND feeling Elliot's constant gross, slimy, suffocating magic.
→ FETID BITE (tier 3) | A bite from Elliot or one of his skeleton crew will cause corruption and soul rot to rapidly spread throughout the victim, decaying both flesh and soul. If the host dies from the corruption, it is automatically risen as one of Elliot's skeleton crew. This uses a lot of his magic and can drain him pretty quickly; it also requires him or one of his skeleton crew to get up close and personal. Multiple consecutive uses can lead to loss of consciousness or death.
Relative planes are compatible magics; their lines intersect with each other. Dissonant planes are incompatible; their lines run away from each other.
— UNNATURAL | The unnatural class possesses magic that can control anything that unnatural and alive.
— HUMANE | The humane class possesses magic that can control anything that is humane and alive.

Dissonant Planes:
