BASIC WORLD INFORMATION

in the land of gods & monsters

INFORMATION | THE HISTORY OF BCR | BONUS DEETS

Somewhere up north, somewhere cold, is a school for boys possessed of a certain kind of magic. This school doesn't teach how to read the future, or how to walk through walls. This school teaches math, and languages, and how to bring monsters to heel.

Welcome to the Barrett-Crowley Reformatory, and mind the claws.

— all info above written-up by manual.

But that's not where we're going this time, not exactly, whilst, Elliot is from the same verse as the Barrett-Crowley Reformatory, he doesn't and has never attended it. No, this story takes place somewhere a bit older: Africa.

—here's your introduction to destruction—

"The JoBurg Collective — Less of a physical institution so much as a network of private educators, the South African institution actively seeks out magic users to educate and train individually. The collective maintains a three-floor office building in Johannesburg as a de-facto headquarters and containment facility." - manual

Unlike BCR, the JBC seeks out magic users starting in their teens and upwards and groups them by age to form "classes." This often means that graduating classes often aren't large but are focused on intensively more like an alternative school or private school vs a public school. Mostly they are educated and trained individually but are also given group situations to enhance the learning experience and show the importance of networking and working with other magic users.

It's basically like a more personalised Quantico for magic that share many of BCR's beliefs in teaching if on a more harsh scale.

The Johannesburg Collective sees community as something that's needed in order to continue; because they are not as large as their sister schools, they focus on this ideal whilst also strengthening their students. Graduation takes places for the senior class at midnight. The students are required to ingest a mysterious liquid given out by the faculty. The liquid in question has a sludgy black consistency and nerfs the student's powers whilst also giving them the affects of feeling drugged, various effects that affect everyone differently. This makes it so the idea of relying on one another is preferred - of course, not everyone always follows along. Once this is done, they are dropped into the middle of an African jungle, armed with nothing but their wits, some bottles of water and some snack bars.

The rules are simple: Stay alive, kill as many spooks as possible, and make it out of the jungle. Trophies are used to rank the class.
